Nubuck leather is an aniline leather where the face has been brushed and has a velvety feel, is breathable, soft to the touch and comfortable. Bycast leather is made when the leather skin is split and usually the bottom layer is used upon which a process is used covering the leather with a protective polyeurethane coating. It is very hardwearing, has an attractive uniform appearance, and has the advantage of being lower in price than conventional leathers.

This is most often used now for commercial settings where price is often an important factor. For Pvc imitation leathers, a woven fabric base has a coating of polyvinylchloride applied and the grain effect is made by a pressure roler running over the material. In this way any number of designs can be applied, depending upon the design on the roller. The feel of this material is generally harder and less giving than PU fabrics. Today faux leather non woven Pu leather like fabrics are so effective in imitating the real thing, that even people within the leather industry may find it difficult to differentiate them without very close inspection. There are types of PU faux leather that imitate suede and nubuck too with limitless grain patterns being available.

Of course it is important to ensure that the material has a fire retardant coating and that certificates are available for this and for the foam filling too. The foam filling comes in many different hardnesses (called density), with 30 Super Soft being typically used for chair backs and 40 Hard being used for the seat. For the heaviest applications 50 or 55 Hard may be used. On leather dining chairs the seat and back foam are often supported by webbing woven from jute or artificial fibres. For harder applications steel springs can be used.

For the heaviest use a plywood or fibreboard makes the base for the seat although this is not the most comfortable option.

Have you ever been to a friend's home for dinner, and just as you ease yourself in the dining room chair, you discover that it's one of those wobbly, unsteady items that you hope won't give way as you're eating? If you're the owner of such chairs, you may want to address the situation and put all your future dinner guests at ease - at least as far as their seating is concerned.

Sometimes these tottering artifacts just need a screwdriver or wrench, and a little of your time to tighten up the nuts and bolts. But if your dining chairs are assembled with the use of glue or joints, the project may take a little longer. Wood glue is needed as well as a clamp to hold it all in place. Glue the joints well, and clamp them for at least 48 hours. You could also attach some form of splint between the legs and the main frame of the chair to give it more stability.

The other problem that arises with older dining chairs is the seat covering. It gets torn and worn over the years, and if the basic chair is of good quality, it could be worth recovering. You have the opportunity to purchase a seat covering of your style and color, and can even fit it yourself.

Let's take a look at how it can be done.

Invert one of the dining chairs on a table or suitable support, and the seat portion of the chair will pop out with a little persuasion. Once this part is successfully removed, measure the fabric, allowing for enough to tuck and secure underneath the seat. Measure the width and length, allowing plenty for the occasional mistake. Multiply width by length and we have the square footage required. Multiply by the number of chairs, and we have the total square footage.

Next, it's time for a trip to the fabric store, and to choose some appropriate fabric for the job. Be sure to take into account the décor of the dining room and other furniture and choose a color and texture of your liking. You may want to invest in a staple gun for this project, but on the other hand, if this is the only job it may be used for, you may be able to borrow one from a friend, or the job can be completed using small tacks and a tack hammer.

Once we have all the materials necessary for the job, we can commence. Take the original seat cover off the dining chair, trying to protect the padding in the process. If the padding is worn, you might want to replace this also. Now, cut a piece of fabric to the size previously measured for one seat cover. Place it over the seat and pulling it as tight as possible, staple or tack it into place under the seat. Keep pulling it tight as you round each corner of the seat so as to avoid wrinkles over the padding area. And that's it - simple. Now you have new seat covers for your dining chairs - all your own work.

A parsons chair is a special kind of upholstered dining chair. The name has nothing to do with the clergy. The chair was named for its origin - it was created in Paris in the 1930s, by a designer at the famous Parsons School of Design.

When designing the chair, the Parsons School designers didn't radically reinvent the idea of the chair (as, say, the Bauhaus did in Germany). Instead, the designers streamlined historical influences, kept what worked, threw away what didn't, and created an enduring modern classic. Most bedrooms sandwich their beds between a couple of night tables, especially if you're a couple. Lamps, alarm clocks and photos are what you'll most commonly find on these tables which are almost always a matched set unless you buy your pieces separately.

Finishing off the bedroom decor is usually a tall dresser and a long dresser. Even the largest bedroom is relatively small compared to the rest of the home so these pieces are relatively small. Your common dining room has a dining room table which can be made of a number of materials similar to the materials that living room tables are made of, wood, glass, etc. Dining room tables however are almost always rectangular in order to accommodate a standard party of six.
